Rental terms and conditions.
These are the words you sign. The figures for your piano are filled in and shown before you sign, and a copy stays on your own page.
In short
- Every rental has an end date: 3, 6 or 12 months. Nothing rolls on.
- The first month, the $200 delivery fee and the $500 bond are paid before we book delivery.
- You can cancel for a full refund at any time before the piano leaves us.
- The rent for the first 3 months is payable whatever happens. After that you can return the piano on 14 days' notice.
- There is no admin fee, no late fee and no interest.
- Faults from normal use and fair wear and tear are ours. Damage beyond that is yours, itemised with photos.
- You must be over 18, live in metro Melbourne and show photo ID at delivery.
- A short hire or a rental gives you no right to buy the piano.

The piano
Its make, model, serial number and year.
1. The term
3, 6 or 12 months, as you choose, from the start date to the end date. This rental has an end and does not roll on. When it ends the piano comes back to us, unless we both sign a new agreement for a new term.
2. The rent
The piano's rent a month, shown before you sign. The agreement lists how many monthly payments there are, and the rent in all. GST is included. Each month is paid in advance. Rent runs from the day the piano is delivered: if it arrives after the start date, you do not pay for the days before it arrived. We add no late fee, no admin fee and no interest. We cannot change the rent during the term.
3. What you pay before delivery
The first month's rent, the delivery fee and the bond are all paid before we book your delivery.
4. The bond
$500, held while the piano is with you. It has no GST in it. We refund it after the piano comes back, in full, unless rent is still owing or we find damage beyond fair wear and tear. If we keep any of it we tell you in writing how much and why, with photos.
5. Delivery and collection
Delivery: $200
Collection at the end: $200
These cover a ground-floor room in metro Melbourne with up to 4 steps to get in. If the way in needs more, we quote you before we book. If you do not accept the quote, we cancel and refund everything you have paid.
6. In all
The rent, delivery and collection added up, with the bond shown beside it.
7. Changing your mind
You can cancel at any time before the piano leaves us, and we refund everything you have paid. We may decline this rental within 2 business days of your signing it, for example if the piano turns out not to be available, and we then refund everything you have paid.
8. Delivery day
You or an adult you name must be home, and must show photo ID to our mover. We check it and keep no copy. We cannot leave the piano without it. Our mover photographs the piano at delivery and at collection, and those photos are the record of its condition.
9. Returning it early
You can return the piano early. Tell us 14 days before you want it collected. The rent for the first 3 months is payable whatever happens. After that, rent stops on the day the piano is collected, and a part month is worked out by the day. The collection fee applies. There is no other charge.
10. Looking after the piano
Keep it indoors at the address in this agreement, away from heaters, air-conditioning vents, damp and direct sun. Keep drinks and plants off it. Only our mover may move it, and only our tuner may tune or repair it. If you move house, tell us and we arrange it at the mover's cost. You may not lend it, hire it out or sell it.
11. Faults and tuning
We tune it before delivery. On a 12-month rental we also tune it once in your home, at our cost, around month 6. If something goes wrong through normal use, tell us and we fix it at our cost. If it cannot be played for a time, you do not pay rent for those days, or we swap it for a similar piano.
12. Damage and loss
Fair wear and tear is ours. You pay for loss of the piano, or damage beyond fair wear and tear, while it is with you, unless we or our mover caused it. That is the fair cost of repair, and never more than the piano's price on the day this agreement was signed. We keep it first from the bond and tell you exactly what for. We do not sell insurance: you may wish to tell your home contents insurer that the piano is with you.
13. A missed payment
There is no late fee. We remind you at 3, 7 and 14 days. If rent is more than 14 days late, we may write asking you to pay within a further 14 days. If it is still unpaid we may end this rental and collect the piano on a day we arrange with you. You then owe the rent up to the day of collection and the collection fee, and we will not enter your home without your permission. We may also end this rental on written notice if you move the piano without telling us, or lend, hire out or sell it.
14. When the term ends
About 30 days before the end we ask what you would like. You return the piano, or we both sign a new agreement for a new fixed term, which we can offer only while everything paid stays within the piano's price.
15. The piano stays ours
You hire the piano. It stays the shop's, and nothing in this agreement makes it yours.
16. Your rights
Nothing here takes away your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. We cannot change this agreement unless you agree in writing.
