Exceptional home care
Japanese households treat their pianos with extraordinary care. Instruments are regularly tuned, kept in climate-controlled rooms, and rarely played heavily, meaning internal components stay in remarkable condition.
Signature Pianos was built on a simple idea: that Melbourne families deserve access to exceptional instruments, honestly priced, with the support to enjoy them for life.
Eric Kuang, Founder, Signature Pianos
Over the past few years I've watched families across Melbourne struggle to find a quality piano at a fair price. The options were limited: new instruments with heavy markups, or pre-loved pianos with no history, no support and no guarantee.
Japan has a deep supply of well-kept pre-loved Yamaha and Kawai pianos. I started importing them directly, choosing each piano in Japan myself, so Melbourne families pay for the piano and not a chain of dealers.
Signature Pianos isn't just a shop. It's a promise: that when you buy from us, you're supported before, during, and long after the sale. From finding the right instrument to booking your first tuner, we're here for the whole journey.
Japan has a unique piano culture, and it produces some of the finest pre-loved instruments in the world.

Japan is home to Yamaha and Kawai, and most of their pianos were made and first sold there. That gives us a wide choice of models, years and finishes to choose from.
Japan's strict humidity control culture means pianos are stored and maintained in near-ideal conditions. When we source instruments, we inspect storage history as carefully as the piano itself.
A 20-year-old Japanese Yamaha upright, properly maintained, can outperform a brand new budget piano at twice the price. That's the value proposition: quality without the new instrument premium.
We don't buy in bulk from auction. Every instrument in our collection has been individually inspected, either by Eric directly or by our trusted partners in Japan who know exactly what we look for.
We check the soundboard, the action, the strings, the hammers, the cabinet, and the pedal mechanism. We play every note across the full range. If it doesn't meet our standard, we don't bring it to Melbourne.
Once an instrument arrives, it goes through a local inspection and any necessary preparation before it's listed on our site. What you see is what's ready to play.
